DTN COMMENTS: A light live trade is developing in all three major feeding
states near midday, prices are generally steady with the bulk of yesterday's
business. Asking prices are around $112 to $113 in the South, and $175 to
$176 in the North.
A light to moderate trade took place in the North yesterday with dressed
deals marked at $172 to $174. The $172 is $1 lower, but the $174 is $1
higher than last week's weighted average basis Nebraska. The South reported
a light trade at $110 to $112, the $110 is $1 lower, while the $112 was $1
higher than last week's weighted averages. It sounds like the $112 was paid
by a Regional and the $110 was by majors.
Beef cutouts are significantly lower at midday (choice 239.52 -1.37, select
221.67 -1.28) with moderate box movement (60.92 lds of choice cuts, 9.35 lds
of select cuts, 15.69 lds of trim, and 12.85 lds of ground). Cattle futures
near the noon hour are sharply lower on both live and feeder contracts.
